Student Accessibility Services

Frostburg State University (FSU) is proud to serve students with unique needs by maintaining an accessible and inclusive learning environment. FSU’s Student Accessibility Services Office empowers students by building up awareness, advocacy, and self-determination for students with disabilities. SASO works with partners across campus to create a safe and nurturing community for students to succeed in all aspects of their lives.

Frostburg State University and SASO are committed to providing equal access to all University facilities, programs, and activities for students with disabilities. This commitment includes compliance with all disability-related legislation, such as the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

What is a disability?

An individual with a disability is defined as a person with a physical or mental impairment which significantly impacts the person's major life activities.

As the range of disabilities varies greatly; if you are experiencing limitations because of an impairment, please reach out to the Student Accessibility Office (SASO) for help. Note that disability-related accommodations can be simple and at times the accommodations can be complex; the goal of the SASO is to work with you, together, to maximize your access at FSU.

Disabilities can be visible, such as someone who uses a wheelchair, cane, or hearing aid. The majority of disabilities are invisible and include the broad category of learning disabilities, psychological disabilities, and chronic medical illnesses. Whether the disabilities are visible or invisible, the Student Accessibility Services Office will assist each student in finding accommodations that works best for them.
