Reporting Child Abuse

Maryland Law requires that individuals working in an educational setting must report suspected child abuse or neglect to law enforcement or another appropriate agency.

In order to ensure compliance with the law, the University requires that any employee or faculty member who suspects or becomes aware of the possible abuse or neglect of a child must immediately report the information to University Police.

A report is required in cases involving children under the age of 18, and in instances where a student reports that the abuse or neglect occurred when he/she was under the age of 18, regardless of the student's current age or the location where the abuse or neglect took place. (Md. Code Ann., Family Law §§5-701, 5-704, 5-705).
